I just got back from the Haven Conference in Atlanta with my good friend Erin and I am exhausted, but filled with so much inspiration! We had the best time and I will be sharing all about it later this week. But for now, I’m catching up on life, work, and LAUNDRY! And since it’s been awhile since I shared our laundry room, I thought I’d share our laundry room on the blog today.
Funny that even two years later, there are still some things I need to accomplish in this space! ALWAYS a work in progress, right? Those finishing touches are on my to-do list once everyone is back in school in a few weeks.
Sharing our laundry room today. It’s not completely finished, but I figured I’d share new pictures of things I’ve added when I get around to it! So just as a reminder of what it looked like…
And the AFTER.
Where the ironing board and closet door is, there was a cabinet. We took that out, enclosed some of the garage to make a closet and added a built in ironing board.
I’m planning on putting a shelf or two under the shorter upper cabinets on that back wall to house my iron and other essentials. Cleaning supplies, pet supplies and laundry supplies are kept in the corner and right cabinets and the higher cabinet is for paper towels.
On the big, left wall, under the turquoise framed art, there is a gallery wall of photos of my kids being messy. My kids are kind of notorious for being messy, so I’ve got lots of fun pictures!
I had our contractor build a hamper cabinet {missing one of the baskets…it was upstairs at the time!} to fit our hampers. I bought a few extra baskets just in case. I use one of these laundry baskets for each member of our family. It makes laundry run a bit smoother so I can just toss the clean clothes into each person’s basket. I’m pretty good at getting laundry done, but I’m notorious for not getting it actually in to the drawers and closets! So a lot of the time we live out of these baskets! {is anyone else like that?!?! please tell me yes!}. We definitely still have dirty clothes piles on the floor on laundry day. But it helps with the putting away of clothes. Now we don’t have stacks of hampers and clothes all over the place all the time, and if someone needs baseball pants I usually know right where they are.
The size of my actual cabinet is 93 1/2″ high plus crown molding x 23″ wide. The inside measurements of each hamper cubby is just about 19 3/4″ wide x just under 14 3/4″ high. I first found our hampers {18 1/2″ square x 14″ high} and then worked around that. The actual cabinet sits on the floor, so that the bottom of the cabinet is actually our tile floor.
I also wanted a place to hang dry clothes, so I added an extendable closet rod between the hamper cabinet and the upper cabinet for hanging.
We added recessed lighting and put in a new tile floor, molding, and painted. And my favorite…a super organized closet! Seriously, it makes me so happy every time I open it!
I used the Elfa system, again, from The Container Store. The white plastic bins I’ve had for awhile. One is for clean cleaning rags and one is for dirty ones. On the upper shelf I have vacuum attachments and overflow paper towels.
And I added a clear shoe organizer over the back of the door for all our little stuff, like batteries, felt floor protectors, etc.
So that’s our laundry room! It’s so much more functional and makes the never ending chore of laundry slightly more tolerable. Slightly.
Only wish now I had a little elf to put it all away for me!
You can check out some extra function that was added HERE.
