Hello friends! I didn’t mean to take the summer off from this little blog, but my time was spent with my family, quite a few work projects, and a little travel here and there. This summer was a good one, with lots of camps, little adventures, projects {I completed a few projects in the Master Bedroom, but it’s still a work in progress!} and we even had some downtime. By the last two weeks or so of summer, though, we had kind of done all we could do. And we had had just a bit too much togetherness :) Everyone was ready for their own little space and routine! School has been in for about a month now, so I feel like we are getting in a nice little rhythm of our new schedule.
This summer, I headed to San Diego for a quick trip with my boys to visit friends and fit in as many Living Solutions design meetings as I could! I also had quite a bit of projects going on here locally this summer, and I hope to share some of those projects in the coming months.
One of those local projects was a fun “Sitting Room” transformation. My client wanted to change this darker sitting room into a lighter and brighter space.
before
It was a pretty room, just fairly dark and not as functional as she wanted for this room. We came up with a new furniture arrangement and ways to brightened up the space!
after
We started with paint. It’s always such an easy{ish!} and affordable way to completely change the look of a space. We used the paint color that was throughout a lot of the house; a much lighter, brighter “greige.” There is quite a bit of painted trim throughout the rest of the home, but most all of the window and door trim is framed in wood. In the sitting room, we kept the wood trim, but painted out the crown molding to brighten up the ceiling and continue the eye upwards, instead of visually stopping at the crown.
We changed up the furniture and added four new chairs with a subtle pattern to make conversation easy, and used the two end tables originally in the room. One was perfect for a coffee table, so we moved that for the 4 chairs to surround, and kept the smaller one by the window. A new console table, larger art, draperies and accessories were added to give this room a whole new feel.
Larger art was more proportional for the room and the high ceilings and picked up colors that are throughout their home.
I just this transformation! I’m all about lighting and brightening up spaces and adding better functionality to a space to really reflects my client’s lifestyle. It’s still warm, cozy and inviting, but with some updates it has a whole new feel!
