Happy Monday!
Jill and I had a great time yesterday at the Rose Bowl Flea Market! I left my house at 5:25am, picked us up some Starbucks, headed to get Jill and we were on the road! It took us about 2 hours, not too bad when you are talking about all things under the sun, and we pulled up into our parking spot (manned by about 17 people-over kill!) a little after 8am.
I would strongly suggest getting there about 8am or a little sooner. Some of the vendors were still setting up, but a lot of them were already up and running and there weren’t many people. We didn’t feel rushed, so we could peruse the booths and take our time. As it got later in the morning, it got crazy crowded! Combine that with hungry girls who had been lugging heavy bags with found treasures around for a few hours and we were ready to wrap things up!
Like I mentioned on Saturday, I was on the hunt for a few things. I was disappointed that I didn’t find any American flags! I’m planning on doing something like I talked about in this post…a collage of American flags for either our stairwell or our boys’ room. I was convinced I would come home with at least one if not more flags to frame! Well, I shouldn’t say I didn’t find any. I found one but it wasn’t quite right.
I did find a white pitcher for my family room mantle, and some adorable “berry baskets.” I wasn’t sure what I would use these for, but loved all the colors (there was also red and yellow ones, too) so I picked up a few. I also got this adorable little stool. I have seen these in Pottery Barn before and I’m pretty sure my mom has something like this that I like. The lady who was selling it said they were from China. Children used them to sit on in school. Not sure if that’s really the story, but there were a ton of them and they were so cute!
After looking around my family room, I used one of the “baskets” as my remote control holder. Our little guy broke our last one last week :) Perfect timing, I guess!
I wish I had gotten some of these for our master bedroom.
The same vendor that I bought the stool and berry baskets from had big, beautiful teal ones without the rope. She also had colorful “life savers” that were worn and so much fun that I wanted to have a place for, but just didn’t. They would have been so fun for a boys room or a nautical living room!
I also wish I had gotten some of these to put in a few of my glass apothecary containers.
Jill found this adorable old iron that she’s going to use as either a door stop or in her laundry area as decoration. I was looking on Pottery Barn’s site, and I saw the PB Found Iron for $129!!! WHAT?! Jill scored hers for $15!
Next time I think we’ll pick up one of those granny carts to save our backs! And a get-a-way plan…We sat in a line for over an hour to get out of the 1 exit they had. It was TERRIBLE planning on the Rose Bowl staff’s part. Where were all the parking attendants that helped make sure our cars were lined up just so when pulling in?!?! I can’t imagine that is how it is every month or for USC football games. So that was the only downer of the trip. And even that wasn’t so bad! Thank goodness Jill had some snacks in her bag, or we would have been 2 cranky flea marketers!
We can’t wait to go again! It was great to see what was available. There was beautiful furniture, art prints, metal letters…all kinds of fun finds for both us and our clients. We want to try out the Long Beach Flea Market next!
It’s a busy week at LSID! We’ve got new client consultations, and design plans to work on for clients!
