Hope everyone’s weekend has been a good one!
When I found this photo for this post last week, it really got me thinking about our home this weekend.
I LOVE this idea and I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before.
Some may call us a patriotic family. I met my hubby in high school and he was ASB president and it was somewhat known that he had aspirations for wanting to be President of the United States (that has since changed, although I think he would still consider some public service later in life!) He attended the United States Naval Academy and served in the active military and reserves. Our first child happened to be named after an American president so we decided to stick with that theme for #2 as well. So needless to say, we’ve always had an American flag hanging from our home.
I think this idea of a gallery of American flags would be awesome for the boys’ room or for our stairwell. We have a flag that was hung over the US Capital building on our wedding day and was given to us as a gift. I’ve toted that flag around from home to home since we were married. We didn’t want to hang it outside and have it be ruined eventually and I didn’t know what else to do with it, but now I do! I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner! I’m excited to start a search for American flags!
And that got me thinking…I love the idea of our home inspiring our children throughout their lives, and inspiring us as well. I think you’re home should be a reflection of who you are, where you’ve been and things you love. But what I discovered this weekend was that I really want our home to inspire us as well. I love the idea of a wall of flags to remind us and our boys how lucky we are to live in this country, how many people have fought for our freedom, how they can achieve anything they dream of.
From there, I thought of some more ideas that will take some time to achieve, but I’m so excited to start gathering ideas, etc. I remember seeing a long time ago, I think on an Oprah show, a bathroom of Oprah’s filled with her favorite quotes. I thought this would be a great idea for our half bath downstairs. It’s a bathroom we use more than any other, and I want it to be special and fun. What a perfect way for us and our guests to be inspired than a wall filled with quotes that are meaningful to us.
And since my little guy has been in preschool, we’ve gathered quite a bit of artwork! He loves seeing it displayed around the house (on the fridge, our family bulletin board, etc.) but it’s a bit haphazard for my liking. I’ve seen some frames that like these here that make it easy to change out the artwork, but they are a bit pricey. I figured I can just get some inexpensive frames and change them out myself and make a gallery wall of inspiration in a place where we can all see it every day. We have a hallway downstairs that would probably go unused that I think would be a great place for this, along with other “accomplishments.” And although it’s a bit personal and informal for the main living area, it’s our home and I want inspiration front and center for my family.
What inspires you lately? Any unique ideas for your home that fosters creativity, learning, and inspiration?
