I read a lot and it’s one of my own personal greatest joys and pass-times. I have always loved reading. I have such special memories of my mom reading to me at bedtime, before I could read on my own. We read all the Romona Quimby books, the entire Little House on the Prairie series, and The Secret Garden. I’m sure there were more, but those are the ones I remember most. Tucked into bed at the end of the day, listening to my mom’s soothing voice read a chapter to wind us both down. Some nights her voice would lull me to sleep, and other nights we would be in hysterics together! I know we both treasure those memories.
It fostered a love of reading in me, and to this day, I do not go to sleep without reading before bed. It may be incredibly late, or I may only last a paragraph or two, but it’s my nightly ritual and I look forward to it all day!
Since reading is such a love of mine, and I know it’s always better to get a recommendation of good books to read, I thought I’d share what I read each month. If reading isn’t a passion, you can just skip this post :) But if you share a love of reading, you can see what has been on my reading list and hopefully share some of your own!
This month, I read {or finished reading} 5 books. That’s a little more than I usually read each month, and I think it has to do with finally finishing a book I’ve been reading to my boys, as well as more travel this month, which always has me reading more.
In no particular order…
I liked this book. It follows the story of two possible life scenarios of the main character in alternating chapters. If she made one decision, her life goes down one path, and a different decision, her life goes down a different path.
I also really liked this book, as well. It was a little predictable, but I liked the story line, the history and the setting. It’s set in modern day and at the time of WWII, and goes back and forth between to two story lines, while tying them together. It was an easy read!
Another kind of predictable one, but I really liked this one too. I have needed some easy, lighter reads this month and although it was a bit “light,” I really got invested in the characters! This is part of a series, but you wouldn’t need to read the previous books to get the story line.
The City Baker’s Guide to Country Living
I read this book for my book club, and it was another lighter book, that was entertaining and sweet. It was described on the front cover as Gilmore Girls in a book and I would say I would agree. Another easy read!
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library
Last, but not least, was the book I read with my boys. We all really enjoyed this book! It is like a Willy Wonka type book but for libraries and books. It was engaging for all of us, not too difficult of a read {Both my boys could have read it on their own. I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old, and if you’ve got an avid reader in the 9 year old age range, I think they could handle it.} It’s another one that is part of a series, so we will definitely read more, either together or each of them on their own. I find it kind of difficult to find books my boys will like that I also like, but this one passes the test. I know my daughter would like this one in a couple of years too. {for the time being, this book is on major sale!}
One of my favorite apps is Goodreads. It tracks what you have read, what you want to read, if you liked it or not, and what others are saying about it. You can follow friends or people with similar reading interests, it offers suggestions on what you may enjoy reading, and my more competitive side loves the yearly challenge! You can set a goal of the number of books you want to read and it will keep track for you.
I would love to hear what you are reading in the comments, or what you think should be added to my list!
