So don’t worry. I’m not going to get all religious on you today! But it is Ash Wednesday and I thought this year instead of saying I’m going to give up ice cream or chocolate and then cave 3 days into Lent, I would do something that would make me a calmer girl, help make our days and lives and home run smoother and hopefully help someone else in need. I read about giving away 40 Bags in 40 Days a long time ago on one of my favorite blogs, Memories on Clover Lane, and when Sarah wrote about doing it again this year for Lent, I decided I was going to jump on board.
I’ve been working on organizing our house one step at time, which you can read all about here, and I thought this was the perfect motivator to help me stay on track with that goal. One of the main keys to getting and staying organized is not having so much STUFF!!! I really am tired of feeling “owned” by all of our possessions. I just want to find the thing I need to find in 30 seconds or less and not feel so stressed out and angry after looking for something for 15 minutes. (Yes…This is a daily occurrence in our house and I’m SO SICK OF IT!). I want to be able to clean my house fairly quickly and not dig through piles of toys to find “the one hot wheel car” that has gone missing.
You may think 40 bags is a ton of stuff (and it is!) but I’m sure you have it hiding around your home. And they don’t have to be giant garbage bags. They could be small paper grocery bags. I’m pretty sure there aren’t any rules to this game. You don’t even have to be doing it for Lent, just to have more peace and room in your life!
I’ve already been making a stockpile of goodies to be donated. I need to do a little coaxing to get my hubby on board to go through some of his stuff, but I plan to work room by room and load things up for probably a weekly run to Goodwill. If you are interested in joining me on this endeavor, I would love to hear about it! You can read some very helpful tips tips here from Memories on Clover Lane.
I’ll let you know how it’s going every so often in the next 40 days!!! Here’s to a more clutter-free home come Easter!
