Happy Thanksgiving week!
This is my favorite holiday…I’m pretty sure I’ve written that on here recently! We are getting ready for a small, low key Thanksgiving with my in-laws. And in preparation, mainly for the upcoming huge life event that is taking place in 10 days or less, I’m working like a busy bee trying to get lots of projects, laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. done!
Normally I am happy to hang art all on my own {or with the help from a few strong men-aka my hubby or my dad}. But, we had so much art to hang and I just physically couldn’t do it right now. So many of our projects felt incomplete because there were picture frames, art pieces, mirrors, etc. leaning against many walls throughout our home! Last week some clients used an art hanging service that I have used many times for clients before, but never needed them personally. I decided to bite the bullet and have them come out to my house and finish up some projects. It was good “research!”
And it was worth every penny! They worked fast, {2 hours and 15 minutes} which I had known from prior experience. They had all the tools they needed and every hanger you could imagine. I had a lot of things all ready to go {like the gallery wall layout which I’ll go into more depth on later this week or weekend} but some things we moved around during the appointment and we worked together to come up with a good layout.
Here’s a little peak at what was hung…
A gallery wall in the upstairs hall.
As you can see, I only had 2 pictures ready to go!!! But now all the frames are up so all I need to do is fill them. We’ll see how long that takes…
A flag in the boys’ room.
I have mentioned this flag before, but it was flown over the US Capital building on our wedding day and given to us as a wedding gift by a family friend. It sat in a box for almost 10 years. It moved from house to house and finally I thought it was time to enjoy it. I didn’t want it to be outside or it would have been tattered too quickly. I liked the bold impact of the entire flag and I waited until Michael’s had a 60% off coupon on custom framing.
The original plan was to hang it in the boys’ room. Two nights ago we had a change of hearts and decided to put it in the dining room. But when we opened it up {I hadn’t seen it since I picked it up on July 4th-how perfect, I know, but geez, how long should it take to hang a piece of “art”?!?!} we realized it wasn’t really formal enough for the dining room and more fitting for the boys’ room after all. When the boys saw it hanging in their room, they were excited! My older son said “It’s the United States of America!” and knew it had 50 stars. He must be learning something in preschool!
A grouping of ship pictures in the dining room.
We went back to the original plan I had for the dining room and hung a grouping of ship pictures on the large wall in there {more on this later, too.}
Not pictured but completed:
- A painted mirror for the entry way {I’ll share more on this guy later, too.}
- A clock
- A mirror that was in our entry that is now in the baby’s room.
- Jason’s sword, my diploma and Jason’s Navy medals.
- Securing a leaning mirror on the mantle.
- Securing the little display cabinet in the baby’s room to the wall.
There is more in this house to hang, but I wasn’t quite ready for those projects, so I will definitely be having them out again at a later date.
So if you have an unusual piece of art, something large, something time consuming or you just don’t want to or can’t hang it yourself, I would highly recommend hiring a reputable art hanging service.
{And if you need help finding one in the San Diego area or need help with the art/accessory arrangement, email us and we’d love to help!}
