Super Simple Fall Decor

October 5, 2023 By Gina Jackson

Fall is in full swing! We are getting cooler mornings and evenings and I just love it.

I added some super simple Fall decor in our home this week and one lone pumpkin to our porch. I’d love a porch full of pumpkins, but as soon as you put them out around here, the squirrels start pillaging them, and you have to do all kinds of tricks to keep them away! I’m sharing some of my easy Fall decorating tips. You can read another post on easy Fall Decor  HERE.

You don’t have to do a ton or spend a fortune to add coziness and a Fall feeling to your home. I’m all about great accessories when building your “accessory arsenal” because it takes time to build that collection. However, you can get by on maybe one or two good new accessories a season and just slowly build your collection without breaking the bank.

Here are some ways I have incorporated “seasonal decorating” in my accessorizing of our home…

Take inventory of what you already have. You may not have a wagon full of pumpkins but you probably have some things that could be thought of as Fall-ish: Throws, pillows, things with Fall colors like bowls or vases, even a scarf can be used to add some Fall to your home. And don’t forget the candles. Candles are instant coziness!

Go out in nature. Branches from tress or plants, acorns, and leaves can all be collected to bring some of the outside in. On our family walks as a kid, my mom used to collect thin, bendable branches and make them into little wreaths that she would use throughout our home from Fall to Winter. There is always something from nature you can bring into your home.

Use something alive. I have practically no green thumb at all, but adding mums in a little pot, I can do! Small pumpkins or gourds in groupings always look great and are super easy to put together. Just grab some at the grocery store or at the pumpkin patch and throw them in a pretty bowl. I also scatter little white pumpkins throughout bookcases and it’s easy decor.

Use photographs or art. Any photos or art pieces that have warmer colors or images that feel more Fall {and less Spring and Summer, really} are easy and personal ways to incorporate the season. Photographs from the pumpkin patch printed and put in frames can instantly add a feel of Fall.

Use books. I have always used books in my accessories and my go to advice for clients when needing some instant accessorizing is to stroll through the Barnes and Noble bargain book section and find big coffee table books on topics that interest them. I do this in our house too. I have turned them around to see the pages instead of the spines, and I displayed them with their spines out. Either way adds a touch of coziness and personalization to your home.

Move things around. This goes along with “Taking inventory of what you have.” Don’t be afraid to move things around from room to room. Switch it up a bit and things will have a new look in a new spot in your home.

Add layers. Just like in our wardrobes when cooler weather hits, adding layers to our homes quickly invoke a cozy feeling and adds interest to spaces. Throws on sofas, some extra pillows, table runners, quilts on beds, etc. all add layers.

Find one or two new good accessories to add to your collection. If you are out and about maybe at a craft fair or HomeGoods, and find something that screams Fall that you love and you can swing it, get it! Like I mentioned above, building that accessory arsenal takes time and if you find something you love that fits with your decor, add it to your collection!

Just some ideas to spark some inspiration on adding touches of Fall here and there throughout your home! You probably have more than you think already and it doesn’t have to cost much, if anything, to bring some coziness in to your home.

Gina, I have been getting on your friend Erin’s blog (Sunnyside up) for a few years now. I was just on her newest post which is how I found your site. My name is Nicole and I live in Lincoln Ne. I too moved from California and have been here for almost 19 years. It is so funny reading about the fireworks last summer and yes we also celebrate the apple festival. I am a stay at home mom to two teen age daughters. I would love to chat with you sometime. I hope you are settling into your move, it is definitely a culture shock coming from California.
