Hi friends! Are you ready for Christmas next week? I still have a few more little gifts to get the kids and then I also still have some gifts to get for our parents. We’re spending Christmas on our own this year and so I feel like I have this extra time to get gifts checked off, but in reality, I don’t! I need to get on it!
Today I’m continuing on the theme of Favorite Things. Last week I shared some of my Favorite Things ~ Kid Edition. This week it’s all about my favorite things for the home!
These are some of my favorite things that we have in our home that get my approval and my family’s approval and can stand the test of my crazy crew and still look good and work well after a few years of abuse. I mean love!
I love the Pottery Barn throws because they are a great, cozy, hearty throw that is machine washable. I always look for a throw that is machine washable, especially for one we use in our main living area. For quite awhile, Pottery Barn had a chenille throw I love and have in my home. I have given it as gifts, too. It doesn’t look like they carry that specific one now, but you can’t go wrong with any of their machine washable throws.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I love these little lights! I have them in my daughter’s room, and they are the perfect night light at night and so fun during the day. They come in all kinds of fun colors and you can customize it just how you would like or pick one of their already put together color combos. I thought about ordering a couple strands for our Christmas decorating this year and then just didn’t get to it in time {planning on sharing some of our Christmas cheer soon! probably by the time it’s ready to come down!} but they would be so cute strung on a mantle if you had an outlet nearby or in a kid’s room over their bed for a Christmas nightlight.
These Ikea Ribba picture frames are my favorite frames, and I use them all throughout our home. They come in slightly funky sizes-like they are off a standard print size by a 1/4 of an inch. Not sure why, but just know that this is the case! I have the high gloss gray and the white in our house but I have used the black countless times in clients’ homes as well. They are inexpensive and a good size frame. I usually have them hung by a professional art hanger {you can contact your local framing store to see who they use} and they’ll add better hardware for hanging on the back.
I also use a ton of these white Ikea planters in my home and clients’ homes. It’s the bottom right white planter. I use them for real plants, faux plants and as containers to corral things, such as binkies on your kitchen window sill :) That would be at our house, not at my clients’ homes.
While we’re on an Ikea kick, let’s throw in my favorite chair! The Extorp is a comfy, oversized chair and we’ve got 3 of them in our house! Is that too much?!? They are pretty easy to put together, very well priced for a large comfy chair and the slipcovers come off easily to wash.
A few years ago, I wanted a large chalkboard in our home and found this large Pottery Barn Chalkboard. We have it hanging in our hallway and I change the quotes or the writing with the seasons. Usually. I had really great intentions when I first purchased it that I would change the quotes, sayings or artwork on it regularly. Like once a week regularly. We’re lucky if I get to it once a quarter. But hey, the last one was a quote by John Adams and made my oldest kiddo discover a bit more about who John Adams was and the quote by him. Usually after about a month, the bottom half of whatever was up on the board is swiped through by tiny hand prints. Never mind that I missed the fun opportunities for back to school, Halloween and Thanksgiving. At least I got my act together for Christmas, right?!?!

I have a love for Dash and Albert Rugs, and I would have many, many more in my home if I could. I love these little throw rugs because they have fun patterns and colors, they are a good price point {a 2’x3′ is $45} and you can wash them!!! On their website, they recommend not washing them, but using a hose and then laying them flat to dry. I personally have put mine in the washer and dryer for 4 years now and they turn out perfectly. Don’t trust me on laundering advice, but that is what I personally do. I have a few of the small indoor/outdoor rugs that are made of 100% polypropylene and they wear great.
I have a love affair with signs and I have to be careful not to overdue them. I love our “J” sign that leans against the metal shelf between my bookshelves over my desk. This was from this summer…
and this is my Christmas version.
I also love our “gather” sign in our entry and our “EAT” sign in our kitchen.
I also love a good throw pillow. I have had great luck finding pillows that were good quality and an affordable price on Etsy. These blue plaid ones are new for the holidays/winter.

These blue and green ones are the pillows on the sofa every other season of the year. We’ve had these for 3 years now and they are wearing well. I had to have one of them repaired earlier this year, but they are holding up well for throw pillows that get tossed from one side of the room to the other multiple times a day.

So there you have it! Some of my favorite things in our home. I could probably do another 3 posts like this of my favorite things in our home. Future post ideas! These are all things, but help make our home a cozy, safe, loving and comfortable place to be!
