In the midst of a crazy time with our business, I am taking on another little project at our house. With the holidays right around the corner, our much used {and abused} window seat at our kitchen table needs to be readdressed. I don’t want it to be a disgusting mess when we have company over!
This is the “clean” side. Notice the little spots of spaghetti sauce that were just flung on there this past week by my almost 3 year old.
I can’t believe I’m showing this, but this is the other side. The way it looked until a few weeks ago when I flipped it over.
SO GROSS!
When we moved in two years ago, I had this window seat made out of Sunbrella fabric. I love the fabric, but it is just too light for our {messy} family. I clean it with my all time favorite upholstery/carpet cleaner, but it’s just gotten to be too much work. And like so many of you, I just don’t have another minute, let alone 30 for cleaning, to spend on maintaining this area of our house.
So I decided it was time to switch it out to an oil cloth or laminated fabric; something that is easy to wipe down and maintain. I looked for an oil cloth the first round, but didn’t find anything I loved and so I chose the Sunbrella, but I’m back to a laminated/oil cloth fabric, even if it’s not exactly what I totally love.
I ordered a few fabric samples on Fabric.com.
We decided to go with the green and white chevron. I’m also going to have seat cushions made for our rush seat chairs that my middle son is slowly ruining. :)
I’ll share the finished product with you once it’s all completed. The fabric should be here this week so I’m hoping to get it completed before Thanksgiving!
Sometimes we need to readdress areas in our home that just aren’t working, so don’t be afraid to re-work something, especially if it isn’t a huge investment. And if you need an easily maintainable fabric, look into a laminate or oil cloth fabric!
