It’s crazy how fast a year can go. They seem to be moving faster the older we get, too. A year ago Saturday we officially moved into our new home. It’s taken some time, but it is finally really feeling like our home. It’s been an interesting first year. When we bought the house, my hubby and I both thought “There’s not all that much that needs to be done. Little by little we’ll change what we don’t like {wallpaper, etc.}.”
We knew about some of the projects we were encountering, but not the entirety of each project. We knew we needed a bit of plumbing work done. What we didn’t know was that some major pipes were not even connected. We knew we were going to replace the air conditioner unit because it was old. We didn’t know that it had totally not been connected either {The huge wiring conduate was completely cut and sitting in a drain well on the side yard. I’m really not sure how our inspector missed some MAJOR things!} We knew we had a leaking chimney flashing {that caused dry wall damage once we moved in} but what we didn’t know was that the “lifetime warranty” on our roof wasn’t valid any more because that company was no longer in business and we had to track down a few extra tiles out of the same material but a totally different color to finish the job. We had to clear out a lot of the overgrowth in the backyard…it took our guys a whole week to clean it up, and we’ve had to replace numerous sprinkler heads over the last year.
There were also some completely unexpected projects:
A mini flood that led to new plumbing and new duct work underneath house, bees trying to settle in {quite a number of times} to our chimney, a rodent infestation {yes, it was not just an incident…I would definitely call it an infestation; thankfully that is all taken care of!}, more plumbing issues, a water softener bladder bag exploding that ruined quite a few faucets and almost sent my husband to the emergency room. And I know I’m missing some other fun unexpected projects!
But we’ve worked hard on our home in the first year, and looking back at all our pictures, it’s come a long way. I really feel so lucky to be living in this house that I used to drive by, and imagine the family we’d one day have living under its’ roof.
Here is a look back throughout the last year. Some of the photos are rooms in our house the way they looked on inspection day or once the house was finally ours, along with some “after” photos of the progress we’ve made.

GUEST ROOM
before
after
Artwork still needs to be hung in this room. I’ve waited long enough for this room, too, that it’s now becoming an office/guest room, so more AFTER photos to come in the next few months!
BOYS’ ROOM
before
after
I realized that I don’t have many photos of the boys’ room! I’ll show more once we move our little guy into a big boy bed and update that room in the next few months as well.

OFFICE
before
after
Before the knobs were changed… I don’t have any other post worthy after photos of the office, either! More to come on this room, too, as it becomes the nursery for our baby girl.
MASTER BEDROOM
before
after
There are more finishing touches I would eventually like to add to this room: A floor lamp, maybe an ottoman for the chair, art above the fireplace and different accessories for the mantle, and a larger tv, {I’m not a huge fan of tvs in the bedroom, but I really like having ours…not gonna lie! But I can barely see it from bed!}
ENTRY CLOSET
If you follow us on Facebook, {if you’re not yet, click on the Facebook icon on the right sideboard} you know we got our new sectional and dining table last week. I’ll share more pictures in the coming weeks. I definitely won’t have the rooms totally completed, {will they ever really be totally completed?!?} but hopefully I can show more than just the sectional and table!
