School has started and we’ve got a couple of weeks of elementary school under our belt. My daughter started preschool this week and it’s a totally different schedule than we are used to having, so we’re still figuring out our groove, but I think it will be good. I’ve followed some, but not all of my own advice! I hope to get our Kiddo Binder all updated this weekend and our office situation is a bit of a hot mess, so that’s on the to-do list, too!
My boys’ first week in elementary school was a good one and it’s such a relief knowing they are happy to go to school. When we moved, my oldest asked if he could get his own desk since he wasn’t going to get his own room, and I agreed. Then realized that his brother will want one eventually too and I should purchase them at the same time. Buying two of any furniture item can add up quickly, so when I started the hunt, I was looking for desks at a good price point. As a side note, I practice what I preach: I combine investment pieces with inexpensive purchases throughout our home. This is how I design for clients as well. There are pieces you’ll want to be sturdy and last your lifetime {or longer} and there are other items that you’ll probably replace over the years. Their desks will get a beating, I know. And their needs may change once they are a bit older. And I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on things I knew they would be super hard on and I couldn’t supervise at all times. Their beds are Ethan Allen. Their desks will be Target :).
So I started the search for some desks. I should preface it with the statement that we own more desks than we need. And now we have a little desk in our kitchen. I’m not sure exactly how that happened! That being said, none of the options were right for their room. At first I wanted something that had a little hutch for all their junk trinkets and treasures so it wasn’t just all over the place, but I didn’t find one I that fit the size we needed and our budget. I did however love a few of them and found some great options, so today I thought I’d share a little round up of what I found in case you, too, were on the desk hunt!
We didn’t need them to be tiny, just not huge. About 40″-48″ at the max.
1.)Target: Gilford Desk 2.) Target Campaign Desk
3.) Target: Basic Desk 4.) Target: Windham Desk
5.) Land of Nod: Campaign Desk 6.) Land of Nod: Cargo Desk and Hutch
7.) Land of Nod: Division Desk and Hutch 8.) Land of Nod: Bayside Desk and Hutch
9.) Pottery Barn Kids: Parsons Desk and Hutch 10.) Pottery Barn Kids: Charlie Writing Desk
I ended up selecting the Basic Desk in white from Target for their room.
And chose the Windsor Dining Chair from Target in the Navy Blue.
They are super cute in their room! I’ve got the chairs all assembled. It was super easy, by the way. And hopefully I’ll get to their desks this weekend. Hope to share their room soon!
Have a great weekend!
