A New Window Seat with Laminated Cotton

February 8, 2014 By Living Solutions Interior Design

I wrote back here about redoing my window seat in a laminated cotton.

Our existing 2 year old window seat cushion had seen better days, and it was time to get it recovered in something that made sense for our growing, active, and sometimes messy family. I thought I had made the right decision using a Sunbrella fabric, but it was just too light for our young family.

This was the cushion right before it was recovered. On the clean side.

We ended up selecting this green and white chevron laminated cotton fabric.

When I picked it up from the upholsterer’s, I felt maybe I had over chevroned! It’s a bit bold! But it works fine in the space.

I added seat cushions for each of our chairs to protect the rush seat and give an extra boost for the kids in the house.

It’s been 3 1/2 months and this fabric has worked out wonderfully. I strongly recommend a laminated cotton or an oil cloth fabric, as it is also known, for a space that gets a lot of use and abuse. I have been able to wipe them down with an all purpose cleaner, or a wet wash cloth and about a week after we had them, my son got black marker on the big seat. A Magic Eraser took out pretty much all of it. I have also heard of companies that will laminate a regular fabric. The fabric options could be endless!!! This could work great on an ottoman in a play room or even chairs in a kid’s space. Now some new pillows and a weekend spent painting that window trim are probably in my future!
