Next week our entry “closet” will be updated. At least the first stage will be updated.
{this is the closet-right now it’s filled with the beginnings of all my donations for 40 days and 40 bags!}
I’ve been brainstorming ideas on what to use this space for since we’ve moved in. It’s not that cold here in San Diego to warrant a big area like this to be used just for coats. At first I thought it would be a great little room for our dog. Everyone else thought that would be a bit excessive. I was going to make our laundry room “command central” with hooks, etc. as a drop zone. But after a lot of thought, it made much more sense to make the entry closet our hub.
Next week, the built in shelf and rod will be on it’s way out and the wall paper that was improperly painted over will be either removed or gone over again the right way-(our dry wall guy will decide on that). We decided to move forward in repairing and re-doing this area now because we will be having necessary dry wall work done in our master bedroom, and we are in desperate need of a place for our bags, etc.
A large white shelf that I’ve had for years will take the place of the built in shelf and I’ll do some kind grouping of hooks for my purse, bags, hats, jackets, etc. underneath it. I plan to add some “in-boxes” and a bench with cubby storage. And eventually I’d love to change the light fixture and add new window treatments to make it soft and pretty. But first will be deciding what color to paint it and whether or not to add some interesting treatment to the walls…Stripes? Stencil? Just leave it a solid paint color?
This shoe organizer is on the back of the door that holds all the little stuff we use regularly. I have clothes pins on the tops that will eventually hold little labels telling us what goes where.
And since I’ve been working on this in my head for a few months, Pinterest has come in handy with some inspirational ideas!
Here are a few of my favorites…
All images are from my Pinterest Details Board and my Favorite Places and Spaces Board.
Hopefully this project won’t follow the trend of the rest of the projects in this house so far and take an extremely long time to complete. I hope to have this command center up and running soon!
We’re gearing up for a week and a half of house guests {which I’m so excited about!} so this weekend will be full of finishing up projects, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc., with a few client meetings thrown in!
Have a great weekend!
