Ideas & Inspiration

A New “Cloffice”

October 30, 2012 By Living Solutions Interior Design

Hi! Hope everyone had a nice weekend.  The boys and I were so happy to have my hubby back from India!

I mentioned Friday how my number one mission while Jason was away was to get his new office set up. We still have a few more things to transfer down from the upstairs old office to the new office and get all the electronics up and running. But it’s looking pretty good so far and he likes it!

How it looked before the new set up.
There is space to add additional books, binders or boxes.  Notice that SF baseball? There are some happy fans here…I’m sure we’ll be getting some more stuff memorabilia to commemorate their big World Series win!

I decided to keep the heavier items on the built-in shelving.

I ended up using the Container Store’s Elfa system for the entire set up. My original plan was to have the desk he used upstairs fit perfectly into the closet and then just add some shelving above. Although the desk would maybe have fit once it was in there, it was off about 1/2″ to get it in and it seemed like way too much to attempt to make it work.

So I opted for the Elfa Decor desk tops and an Elfa Decor accessory shelf for some of his “trophies” as my son calls them in the lower space. I guess the Decor shelves are a bit sturdier especially if you are writing on them. I had to cut back the price, so I went for the melamine shelf unit above the accessory shelf and then the wire shelving up top with a plastic shelf liner to prevent anything from falling down through the spaces.

I hung some of his special awards, etc. on the wall and added a small magnetic white board for him to jot down notes and have a place to hang things he needed to see. There is a large space below because most likely his larger computer monitor will go there. I may add another accessory shelf there for the monitor to free up some of the actual desk space. The printer will go on the left side of the desk area.

I moved some of our more decorative office boxes into the built-in cubby space, and hope to add a few more {those not so attractive binders below can be emptied into cuter storage} to give it a more finished look, but for now I think it will work just fine.

What I love about the Elfa system {by the way, these opinions are all my own :)} is you can add pieces and move everything around. We used the Elfa system in our old house in every closet and it totally maximized our limited space. I had some pieces left over, hanging out in the garage for the past year, and I was able to take those back down to the Container Store to get cut to fit the other closet in this room. We may decide to add a few additional shelves below the desk on the left if needed and I love that it can all change with our needs.

We decided to keep the freestanding desk that was originally going to go into the closet in the room and we’ll see how that works. I’ll share the whole space hopefully soon. I’m working on finishing up the new gallery wall in the corner of the guest room and hopefully by next week we can have it all up and running. I’m anxious to get the nursery put together! Right now there are just bags of clothes, etc. sitting on the floor waiting for everything to be cleared out. EEEK!
