Over the last few weeks, I’ve been up to the bay area twice, (once for a design job and once for a family trip) and while I was up there, my parents were working on redoing their laundry room. They have a very large, sun-filled space for laundry…Almost nice enough to enjoy the never-ending chore of laundry :) (at least that’s how it is in our house!). I’m not a huge fan of doing laundry, but if I had a room like this, I may be a bit more inspired!
They had very nice cabinetry in there, but they felt as though it wasn’t designed well to utilize all the storage space. There was a lot of deep cabinets, and they were never getting to all the stuff way in the back.
A few years ago, we had our kitchen done through Ikea (those pictures for a later post!) and my parents, I think were impressed by the well designed, well built cabinetry at a very reasonable cost. When they were in the market to re-do their laundry room, they decided to go with the Akurum Rubrik White contemporary cabinet door and the Grip handle in aluminum.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of their “Before“, but I snapped a few of the “During“….
And “After“!
I love the way the cabinets reflect the light and the leaves from outside.
{They are working on getting a new door made for the built-in ironing board}
They added lots of drawers….Pull out drawers inside of cabinets as well as standard drawers below.
And they were able to score a great granite remnant for pretty inexpensively.
I love the large vein running through the granite. Some people like a very uniform pattern in their granite, but I love the uniqueness and naturalness that granite provides.
I have another laundry room project that will need my attention, but that may not be for a little while. So in the meantime, I’ll dream of this laundry room while I am doing the 4th load of the day and hopefully it’ll make it a little bit easier!
Have any of you tackled a laundry room make over, big or small? Or have any Ikea cabinetry in your home? If you’re looking to do a kitchen or another storage area on the inexpensive, I would highly suggest stopping by your local Ikea and checking out their selection!
Happy laundering!
