It’s goal time! Today I’m sharing my goals for the year and my one word that will be driving my focus this year across all areas of my life. In years past, I’ve chosen a single word theme for the year and it’s worked well, except sitting here, I can’t remember an actual single word!!! HA!
As I was thinking about the idea of one word for 2017 a few weeks ago, it came to me so clearly:
Just seems like the perfect word for where I stand at the beginning of 2017 & for the year ahead. So much to “RESTORE”:
- Community {friends, neighbors, church}
- Body and Health {after baby #4 and essentially taking a whole year off from exercising, I’m ready to get my physical well being in check}
- Financial House {moving, new job, new house, building a business again…lots to just tighten up}
- Faith {this has taken a little bit of a backseat and I’m working to build it back up}
- My Design Business
- Order to Our Home {including organization, and how we live in our new home}
- Peace and Rest {this past year has been mentally and physically wearing and I’m ready for some restoration}
As I mentioned last week, I tend to be overly ambitious in my goal making. My mind is usually going a mile a minute in all different directions and it’s hard to quiet it down. I read some where years ago, a woman’s mind is like having 25,872 browser windows open at once. YES!!! Amen to that! When I start rambling all my ideas, concerns, goals, worries, etc. at Jason he always so lovingly says, “Time to close some of those browser windows..bloop, bloop {can you hear the little closing of the browser windows?!?} Funny. But with being a tad over zealous in the goal arena, the concept of RESTORE’ing is challenging to me. It’s difficult for me to just sit and relax or enjoy the moment fully because I’m always thinking of the next thing. In a lot of ways, the idea of restoring to me also means taking time to just recoup, repair and rebuild, and sometimes that means quiet, rest and contentment.
Of course I will be working on goals throughout the year, but they’ll be smaller and more manageable and I’ve decided to write them out each month and see how that goes. I will always have a mile long to do list, but narrowing down some of my monthly goals, all with the concept of RESTORE in the background, will help focus me. If I can accomplish these 4 goals this year, that would be awesome!
My 4 main goals for the year on top of my one word, are:
- Financial Control-Getting to a place of peace, freedom & security
- Photo Organization-I have so many photos on my computer, in different places in our home, in photo albums, etc. In 2015 I started a system of organizing, printing and displaying our photos that worked really well for me and since last year was kind of a wash in areas like that, I plan to get back to that and I’ll share what’s been working for me soon.
- Getting Living Solutions Interior Design set up here in Nebraska
- Blogging More Regularly-I enjoy writing, sharing ideas and learning from others, so I’m hoping to do a bit more of this in the coming year.
Do you do a full blown New Year’s Resolution list or pick a single word for the year? I would love to know how you make your goals so be sure to comment below on this post or on social media. I’ll be sure to revisit my word of the year and if I’m making any progress on my 4 goals {and monthly ones as well!} throughout the year here. It’ll be good motivation to keep me on track :)

I like your one word idea! Restore seems like a great one to focus on. I totally agree with a woman’s brain feeling like it has 1,000 browsers open lol. I like that it’s a funny saying that you and your husband connect over :-)
Happy 2017!
