My Little Green Notebook

January 17, 2013 By Living Solutions Interior Design

Hope every one’s week is going well. Ours’ has been a bit of a crazy one. My husband has been SUPER sick and it has been all I could manage to keep everything {somewhat} together around here. After a second trip to the doctor, then an immediate trip to the ear, nose and throat specialist, and some stronger medicine, it’s like he’s a new person! So happy he’s back to feeling well.

Weeks like this make my new little 2013 organization tool even more valuable. Last week I talked about my new green notebook. I have always been a list maker. It helps unload my cluttered brain! And for years I have had a notebook where I kept all my lists. However, it was just an ongoing list with no rhyme or reason. When I did try to separate my lists or ideas out  {say for an upcoming vacation or party or home project} it was always amongst the every day lists of “laundry, dust, call so and so” and it was very hard to locate the information I was looking for. A couple of weeks I was reading one of my favorite blogs, Sunny Side Up, and Erin had written about her notebook that was helping her stay organized. She had purchased one that had subject dividers and separated out the main things she was working on in life right now.

Brilliant! How come I didn’t think of this earlier? So out to Staples I went in search of a notebook with 5 subjects. Before shopping, I had made a quick list of the main categories that I felt I would use most.

The 5 I ended up with were:

1. To Dos

{my more “administrative” to-do list both short term and long term}

 2.  Family
{ideas I have for family outings, books to read on parenting, vacation ideas, etc.}

3. Home
{project lists both for 2013 and everything we’d like to do to our house long term, my organizing list for 2013, detailed lists on larger projects, room measurements}
4. Schedules/Activities
{cleaning schedule ideas, meal planning ideas, daily routines, info on extracurricular activities for my kids}

5. Work/Blog
 {to-dos for LSID-I had a separate notebook for this, but realized it was too many notebooks and I would forget where I put the action item-, blog ideas and improvements}

I labeled them with just some post it self adhesive tab labels and placed them on each subject divider. I also got a notebook that had pockets at each divider so if I needed to corral a loose paper, it could have a home.

 So far, it has worked out great! I love that all my crazy ideas, to-dos and notes are all in one place and I’m not scattered all over the place {at least in my list making :)}.

How about you? What do you use to keep your brain organized?!?!
