Has everyone taken down their holiday decor yet? It’s so funny how I love putting everything up and can’t wait to get the house all decorated early in December. And then we come home from our Christmas trip up north a few days after Christmas, I can’t wait to take everything down! It must be that January is just around the corner and I’m ready for a clean slate!
In years past, I was very organized with my Christmas decor and had two big bins that everything fit into. I don’t know how we accumulated so much Christmas decor, but all of a sudden we had all these extra crates of miscellaneous decor. So many that I had put one crate and a Christmas box into our guest room closet when moving in and didn’t realize it until this past Monday when I was a crazy woman cleaning up (and out) our guest room which doubles as our boys’ play room. A little too late! But I did find a tree skirt that I hadn’t been able to find in a few years (and because of this, I have two more tree skirts…one I bought and then another I bought to replace the first replacement because I didn’t like it :) and my adorable snow girl that I was missing. So I decided it was time to get us super organized so next year, decorating was a snap.
I looked at Target but hadn’t found any big, tight containers. So I headed to The Container Store and found two large plastic bins to add to the other two I already had. I also found these ornament storage boxes to corral all of our ornaments.
Then I got to gathering everything from around the house. Don’t judge. I told you we had have accumulated a ton of Christmas decor.
{garlands still hadn’t made it to this mess!}
By using the ornament storage boxes, I was able to get rid of all of these individual ornament boxes.
I just looped up our fabric garlands, tied them with ribbon and added a gift tag to remind me where they go.
I’ve stored my lights like this for years and they hold up great. I just loop them together and then zip-tie them together, (trim the ties so they fit nicely together…not shown) and put them in their own plastic container.
Then I just throw on a super fancy label (otherwise known as blue painters tape and a sharpie) and my job is done! I’m ready to hand it over to Jason and have him do the heavy lifting up into our garage attic!
All that junk decor packed neatly and tidily in these 4 bins.
We’ll see ya next year, Christmas!
