Hope everyone has had a great weekend.
We have had an extra long weekend and it’s been great!
We have had an extra long weekend and it’s been great!
Last week my hubby (Jason for those of you who don’t know) had a conference in San Francisco so we decided to pack everyone up and fly up for a few days. Our boys got a chance to spend some quality time with their grandparents and we got a much needed break! I hadn’t been away from my littlest guy ever…13 1/2 months without one night off. And let me tell you, that little guy likes to party in the middle of the night.
We had a great time and I even got a chance to fit in a trip to my client’s (and dear childhood friend) house and check out the progress of her renovation in the city! I also delivered a giant custom window seat that I had made at a workroom in the city. We also got a chance to iron out some details on a whole bunch of throw pillows we’re doing, so hopefully after the first of the year I can share her home as it’s coming together! The window seat turned out beautifully and I can’t wait to see the throw pillows we’ve decided on complete the look!
Of course I didn’t take any pictures of the project, but I did get some nice ones of the city!
I didn’t remember to take a picture of Union Square at night, but it was so beautiful all lit up!
As we drove back to reality, we thought that maybe this could become our new holiday tradition. Spend a night in the city, get some Christmas shopping done and some R&R in.
It got me thinking of holiday traditions. As a kid, my family and I always would go up to the city at Christmastime to window shop, have lunch and see the decorations. From what I remember, my mom usually got a special Christmas gift on these trips and it was such a magical experience for me to get dressed up and head to San Francisco. As I got to be a teenager, we started spending the night in the city on the 23rd of December. I loved everything about it! And being back there this last week brought it all back. I’m excited to take my boys there during the holidays when they get a little bit older.
Tonight we went driving through a neighborhood close to our house that gets all decked out in lights for the holidays. We stopped and got hot chocolate at Starbucks and had homemade chocolate chip cookies in the car. This is the second year we’ve done this and it’s now become a little tradition!
This is also the second year we have adopted a Salvation Army angel and gotten all the things on their list. This year my oldest hand delivered the package and placed it under the tree at the Salvation Army. It’s our small way of giving back and teaching our kids about the importance of giving.
These are just a few traditions of ours that come to mind, but isn’t that what the
holidays are all about? Giving, traditions, family and friends and magic?
