Ideas & Inspiration

Dining Tablescape

February 28, 2013 By Living Solutions Interior Design

I am feeling the need to lighten up with spring around the corner.  Really, it’s pretty much been spring now for awhile around here. In San Diego, the temps don’t fluctuate too much, so I can’t really complain! But what is it about the onset of spring and wanting to freshen EVERYTHING up?!?! I’m in serious nesting mode for our home and feel like I really need to update my wardrobe.
If only we had a money tree in the backyard…

So to at least satisfy my home re-fresh for a minute, I headed to Home Goods to see what I could find. I was getting tired of my dining room table scape and it felt a bit off…the silver candlesticks seemed too formal with the collection of pine cones.
{By the way, that is one hard earned collection of pine cones! My little guys throw them in the stroller every time we are out on a walk. For some reason it started because they thought that was what mommy really wanted for her birthday?!?!? Didn’t know that was on my list!}

Every time I go to Home Goods I look at their larger glass bottles,
and I picked up a few to see how they would work on my dining room
table. I ended up using two of the clear glass. I had a green one that I liked, but it seemed to be too much on the table. Maybe I’ll use it someplace else…

I also had a large woven tray that wasn’t really
getting any use, so I added that to ground a
little grouping.  I headed out back to cut off a few branches from
our pomegranate tree, adding something natural, interesting and free!

I really like how it’s a simple, fresh centerpiece for spring. Overall I spent about $17 on this on the glass bottles since I had all the other pieces on hand.

Just a few tips I keep in mind when putting together a grouping like this:

  • Group things in odd numbers in a grouping like this-usually 3 pieces work best.

  • Use varying heights and sizes.

  • Use different materials and textures-woven, glass, smooth, natural.
You’re eye will move around the grouping and not settle on just one spot when you have varying heights and textures.

Happy spring accessorizing!
