I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! We had a pretty low key 3 days. We were going to have friends over for a BBQ, but my younger son was sick, so the four of us just hung out. And with not a whole lot on the agenda, I got to accomplish or start quite a few little projects!
First up, I was able to build the command center bench {with a little help from my 3 3/4 year old assistant!}. I hope to get the board to make the valance for the window this coming week and hopefully figure out what I want to put up as my mail sorter and then I’ll be able to share the complete “after” photos! So far this space is really working well for us.
I have been meaning to paint two bulletin boards for quite some time, and I finally got around to doing that…
before
{isn’t that light hideous?! can’t wait til that one comes down!}
after
I didn’t take a “before” picture of this little one, but it was black too. My kitchen cabinets are cream, and I wanted it to blend in more.
I also finally got around to painting some candlesticks and baskets. I first used Rustoleum’s spray primer and then painted them Rustoleum’s White in semi-gloss. I didn’t like how the white looked: too gray-white. So I had some of the Heirloom White on hand and that was a better color for what I was going for. The bulletin boards above are painted in the same Heirloom White.
There is still some tweaking I’d like to do on the mantle, but for now, I am really liking the white candle sticks. It’s so much brighter than all that brown. The baskets ended up on the shelf in the command center.
And I was able to start on my next big project in this house…taking down wallpaper! I think I’ve mentioned it before, but there is quite a bit of wallpaper in this house that just doesn’t go with the style I’m working towards. The first area that I’m tackling is the upstairs hallway. I’m so tired of not having our family photos up! Our kids will be headed to high school by the time I get their baby pictures hung!!!
{you can see where I was testing out how easy the wallpaper came off}
This wallpaper is in both the upstairs hallway and the downstairs entry and hallway. I would really love to do something different with the chair rail…either beef it up or add more of a wainscoting look, but I haven’t decided if that will be done right now, or if we’ll come back around to it at a later date.
This is as far as I could reach without a step stool, so I have a bit more to complete on this wall!
All in all, I felt very productive this weekend! We even worked in a trip to the beach! I worked on another little project, but I’ll share that later when it’s all complete. I love when I can check things off my list! And speaking of projects, didn’t Jill’s laundry “room” turn out so fabulous! I love it!
