Ideas & Inspiration

Just some randomness on a Saturday

March 10, 2012 By Living Solutions Interior Design

Happy Saturday! I know we’ve been MIA this week…This past week flew by! And I don’t feel like I got too much accomplished. Maybe it’s because the bees are back :( We have been having fires around here to try to get them out before we call the exterminator. Getting rid of bees is no inexpensive task! And Jason informed me yesterday, after I had killed 4 bees that had made their way past my cardboard and blue tape barricade, that the bee population in California is in grave danger. They are in danger of being extinct and that would be detrimental to California agriculture. Great. Now I’ll have that on my guilty conscience as we try to smoke them out of our chimney.

We had no intention of using this fireplace anytime soon because it’s pretty much not to code. At all. And considering it’s 75 degrees here today, we didn’t think we’d really need to until next winter. But the bees had a different idea.  Everyone I talk to has a different opinion if this will work or not. We’ll see.
We only have one screen for 3 fireplaces so I had to go get one today. Problem is, this opening is only 24″ wide. And it’s almost spring now. If anyone has any fireplace screens left, it’s slim pickings, especially in San Diego.

The fireplace shop we use had only one that would work. It’s more of an antiqued brass finish (not what I would choose for this room) but last night we had a fire and I couldn’t relax. I was so nervous that sparks would fly out of the fireplace, onto our brand new wood surround, and catch that and our whole house on fire.

I was so paranoid that I made Jason install one of our carbon monoxide testers around 11pm just in case. By the way, make sure you have one (or more) of these in your home. I’m pretty sure it’s the law as of January 1st.  I got two at Costco last fall (yes, they’ve been just hanging out since then-don’t judge) for about $26 each.

I also had to run into Staples today and I have been meaning to check out the new Martha Stewart line. I kept putting it off actually. I’m such a huge office supply junkie that I knew once I saw what was there, I wouldn’t be able to resist.

I know me too well.
 For my washing machine and dryer manuals.
 Cute adhesive chalkboard labels to to label the school work memory boxes .
 Cute little mailing labels for client mailings.
And labels for clothes for preschool. Everything has to be labeled and I don’t really want everything to have my older son’s name on it if it’s going to be used by the younger one someday. These should do the trick!

Lately I have been using my washing machine manual and thought this would be a great use for this pocket sleeve. I put it right inside the cabinet over my washer and dryer.
And yesterday, these beauties were installed :) Just a little sneak peek. Hopefully we can finish up some things in here {and the darn bees will leave so I don’t have cardboard blocking my fireplace opening-once there is no fire of course!} and I can share some of the progress made in here!

{Sorry for the terrible lighting on this one. iPhone in the middle of the afternoon
didn’t do such a great job.}

Have a great weekend! And don’t let any bees in :)
